Larry the Cable Guy early life
Larry the Cable Guy grew up in Pawnee City Nebraska, the son of a minister who once played guitar with the Everly Brothers. When he was 16 the family moved to Palm Beach County, Florida. Larry worked at Wendy’s restaurant when he began doing stand-up. He performed at various open mic nights and also made a name for himself by calling into local radio stations as different characters. This is where the Larry the Cable Guy persona came from. A friend of his who worked as a DJ encouraged Larry to call him up as a cable installer. He used the Larry the Cable Guy persona, and that’s where the character came from.
Larry the Cable Guy, at this point still Daniel Whitney, moved to Missouri where he started a radio career. He was a persona on a show in Omaha, Nebraska at the now defunct The Edge KGDE. He worked at a few other radio stations, and started to make a name for himself calling up stations in Southern states and eventually to stations all over the country.
Larry made his way up the entertainment ladder until he and the Blue Collar Comedy tour made him the star he is today. He starred in his own movie, Larry the Cable Guy, Health Inspector and voiced characters in Pixar’s Cars and Disney’s The Fox and the Hound 2. Sena Hannity now invites Larry the Cable Guy to his “Freedom Concerts.”
His recordings have been huge hits also. His first album, “Lord, I Apologize” and 2005′s “The Right to Bare Arms” were Gold, and his thirds album, “Morning Constitutions” followed suit.
60 Minutes’ Bob Simon described Larry the Cable Guy: “Unlike many comedians the 60 Minutes team has met, Larry is not angry, he’s not depressed, he’s not paranoid. He’s a hard-working, supremely confident, happy-go-lucky funnyman.”
He is married to former radio personality Cara, and they have two children, Wyatt and Reagan.
